Hop into a Pet-Friendly Easter with Pets at Home

Vet warns of the dangers of spring bouquets, hot cross buns and Easter eggs From pet-safe Easter eggs to adorable bunny-themed toys, Pets at Home has launched a brand-new range to make this Easter ‘egg-stra’ special for your furry friends.

To ensure they enjoy the fun safely, Dr Samantha Butler-Davies MRCVS, Veterinary Services Director at Pets at Home, also shares her top tips on how to keep them happy and healthy.

She comments, “Many of the foods we enjoy at Easter can be toxic to our pets, this includes items such as chocolate (particularly dark chocolate) and hot cross buns, so be sure to keep these human treats out of reach. There are pet-friendly Easter eggs available which are designed to be safe and enjoyable for your furry friends.”

Dandelion infused small animal Easter egg - £2.50

The dandelion leaf infused Easter egg encourages your small furries to forage for food and treats. Simply break into smaller pieces to share among your pets and scatter throughout their enclosure.

Dr Samantha Butler-Davies MRCVS warns, “Small toys, often found in children’s Easter eggs and plastic eggs, can be a choking hazard for pets – be sure to keep them in a safe place so your pet can’t get to them. If you are planning an easter egg hunt with plastic or chocolate eggs, make sure to keep your pooch inside until they have all been found. If you want to include them in the fun, you can hide them pet-friendly treats instead!”

To help ensure your pets don’t get their paws on something dangerous, Dr Samantha Butler-Davies MRCVS advises, “Many spring flowers such as tulips, hyacinth, daffodil flowers and bulbs are highly toxic for dogs and cats. Keeping an eye on your pets is the best way to keep them safe, especially if they are known to dig in the garden. Lilies are highly toxic for cats, so much so that they shouldn’t even go near the water the flowers have been standing in. Cats who brush against lilies can also get pollen on their fur and suffer poisoning when they clean themselves.”

Treat your pet to an extra special clean with Pets at Home’s exclusive Spring Groom Package - £10. They’ll received a refreshing shampoo, a silky-smooth conditioner, and a ‘Daisy Spritz’, followed by blueberry facial, and the perfect finishing touch – a festive Easter bandana!

£1 from each Spring Groom will be donated to the Pets Foundation, making this pampering session even more special. Book via the website from 17th February - 1st June.

Finally, Dr Samantha Butler-Davies MRCVS advises caution when it comes to Easter lunch, commenting, “Although it may be tempting to involve them when you sit down to a roast dinner on Easter Sunday, it’s essential to avoid giving your pet any bones, as they can splinter and cause serious internal injuries or blockages. Even cooked poultry bones, which might seem harmless, pose a significant risk to your pet's health. Stick to pet-safe, specially designed treats to keep them happy and healthy this festive season.”
